Rock music is about pushing boundaries, having a voice, and exploring art in music. Few bands have come close to pushing the edge of perception than The Doors did from 1965-1971. In that short amount of time, frontman Jim Morrison became a rock icon, performing at small clubs in Los Angeles while they built their name and stage act. In a short time, the band had a number one hit with “Light My Fire” in the summer of 1967, followed by a stream of rock hits by the enigmatic singer-poet. While many came to concerts for their hits like “Hello I Love You” and “Touch Me,” concert goers will left with a whole new appreciation for the true artists, poets, and cutting edge musicians the band really were. Songs like the oedipal “The End” and epic “When the Music’s Over” seemed to put the audience into a deep trance state, as Morrison sang his poetry into the mic over the band’s emphasis.

Popular albums by the band were their 1967 self titled debut, Strange Days, Waiting for the Sun, Morrison Hotel, and their final album, L.A. Woman. These all have a presence on rock radio today in tracks like “Riders on the Storm” and “Roadhouse Blues.”

AC/DC T-Shirts

Thunder! Fire! Who Made Who! These are famous battle cries by Brian Johnson of legendary rock band, and godfathers of heavy metal, AC/DC. Guitarist Angus Young, singer Bon Scott, and the rest of the band of the 70′s version of AC/DC were on fire with releases like “Powerage,” “High Voltage,” “Let There Be Rock,” and “Highway to Hell.” They were well on there way to becoming rock legends for their infectious grooves and rebellious croons in songs like “Whole Lotta Rosie,” “TNT” and “Let There Be Rock.” Unfortunately, alcohol abuse and a hard life of partying caught up with singer Bon Scott before the release of Back in Black in 1980.

As an ode to Scott, the band recorded Back in Black, which was there most successful album, and continues to be the best selling rock n’ roll album of all time. Recruiting singer Brian Johnson, the band bounced back to make the biggest comeback in rock history. Throughout the 80′s, 90′s, and 2000′s, AC/DC has continued to release blockbuster albums like The Razor’s Edge and Black Ice, accompanied by concert tours that are breaking attendance records with every show.

Kiss T-Shirts

As one of rock n’ roll’s legendary bands of the 70′s, KISS has a reputation for a live concert like no other. While some bands rely more on a doctored studio sound and little to no visuals, KISS takes that approach and smashes it upside the face with Paul Stanley’s v-neck guitar. Their electrifying live performances feature rock’s very best pyrotechnics, stage props, and personality, all combined with some of the most familiar, listenable hard rock of the 70′s and 80′s. Who hasn’t heard “Rock N’ Roll All Night” or “Detroit Rock City” at least a few times? Then of course, there’s the makeup and the personalities behind each “character” created by the band. Fronted by original members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, the band is still rocking hard and entertaining a whole new legion of the KISS Army.

Mexican T-Shirts

An ever growing segment of the population of the United States claims Hispanic heritage of some sort, with Mexican descent being the top growing heritage. What about you? Can you claim Mexican heritage as part of your ancestry, or entirely? This entire page will be dedicated to finding great apparel to wear in honor of your Mexican heritage, including Mexican t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, jackets, and other apparel. Now, on to the shirts!

First, we’ll take a look at a store called Mexitees. This store specializes in Mexican heritage t-shirts and gifts. Designs range from the obvious, like the Mexican flag, to Luchador themed, guacamole tees, Mexican-American t-shirts, to funny Mexican t-shirts. Some of the highlights of the store include the I Love Mexico t-shirts section, which includes over twenty designs celebrating different aspects of the culture, from food to cities and states. Captain Mexico T-Shirt

Has any superhero captured the hearts of American, I mean, Mexican citizens better than the courageous, sombrero wearing Captain Mexico? It’s an obvious design that pokes a little fun at the cliche of Captain America, and gives him a south of the border twist. Ironically, this fitted t-shirt is made in the USA, too, but don’t tell El Capitan here. Now if only Marvel Comics would invest some serious thought and cash into this character so we could see him in comic books and in massive summer blockbuster movie…

Luchador T-Shirt
Luchadors keep pro wrestling interesting. Instead of relying on boring grapples and headlocks, these guys fly all over the wrestling ring, from the top posts, in and out of the ropes, and specializing in plenty of over-the-top acrobatic moves. The mask is the most important part of Luchador/Lucha-Libre style wrestling, and remains a motif in the storylines and costumes. This tee features a mask commonly worn by Luchador wrestlers, which all have similar design themes. Very popular in Mexico, and very influential in the USA, too.

Day of the Dead Sugar Skull Womens T-Shirt

The Day of the Dead is a really unique celebration that rivals that of the Americanized, commercialized Halloween Day in the US and abroad. The Day of the Dead has trickled into the consciousness of t-shirt designers and tattoo artists, with sugar skulls (which are eaten in memory of the deceased on the Day of the Dead) becoming a popular motif. Vintage Mexican Flag T-Shirt

Mexico’s flag, like most countries, is symbolic with its culture and ideals. The Mexican flag features three colors: red, white, and green. The colors are derived from the national liberation army in Mexico. The eagle coat of arms designs was based upon Aztec legend, and features an eagle perched upon a prickly pear cactus above a lake. The flag has changed many times, but the most recent incarnation has been adopted since the 1960′s. Now, imagine that design had been lying around, allowed to be weathered, worn, and sun beaten. That’s what this design looks like, a time weathered, but still beautiful and artistic rendition of the Mexican flag on a t-shirt. It looks best on black.

I Love My Mexican Boyfriend T-Shirt

Japan Earthquake Relief T-Shirts

The most devastating even to occur in the history of Japan since the Hiroshima and Nagasaki blasts during WWII have forever changed their culture, people, and the landscape. The will of the Japanese people has been tested, and they’ve shown amazing resilience in the face of a cataclysmic event. The Japanese earthquake and tsunami that rocked northern Japan on March 11, 2011 hasn’t just been catastrophic to some areas like Sendai, it’s been a crisis that the entire country has had to deal with, mourn, and promptly facilitate rescue efforts. The danger of nuclear radiation from the damaged nuclear power plants is only hindering rescue efforts.

What can we do, besides directly donate to help raise awareness and donate to the cause?

With every disaster that strikes, no matter where it is, artists usually mobilize to create graphics and lend their support. They’ve done so quickly on CafePress, Zazzle, Threadless, as well as these other Japan earthquake relief shirts that donate proceeds to the American Red Cross.

If you are questioning your morals about buying a shirt to support the cause or raise awareness, you have to stop and put yourself in the shoes of the victims. If you were in the face of disaster and needed the aid, would you question how it got there? Perhaps after the fact, but not now. The time is now to act and to spread the word that Japan needs help, so any sort of donations are of course a good thing, whether it’s from straight donations or t-shirt sales. Mardi Gras Fat Tuesday T-Shirts

For many, Mardi Gras is a time to party, let loose, and celebrate the upcoming spring. But, that’s not the real meaning of Mardi Gras. What is the real meaning? It loosely translated means “Fat Tuesday,” which seems to make no sense unless you know the background of this religious ordeal (yes, it’s actually a religious day, believe it or not!). Though not many churches probably condone people yelling “show your tits” from hotel balconies, the day began as a final “pig out” day before Ash Wednesday.

Ash Wednesday is a Catholic ceremony that marks the beginning of Lent. This is a part of the year Christians give up indulgent eating and behavior until Easter Day – when Christ rose again. That’s why it’s called Fat Tuesday. It’s the day that Christians initially celebrated as their own version of “the last meal” in which they had everything they could possibly want that would be forbidden over Lent.

And, Mardi Gras isn’t just celebrated in New Orleans, either. It’s celebrated all over the USA and throughout Christian countries. There are annual celebrations in Mexico, Spain, Italy, throughout Europe, South America, and also in Mobile, Alabama, where the “original” Mardi Gras took place in the USA. Though popularized by the famous New Orleans parades and party atmosphere, this isn’t necessarily indicative of how it is celebrated all over the world.

If you’ve ever been to New Orleans, imagine the area full of people (more than usual) all coming to party from the south, the midwest, the west coast, the east coast, virtually everywhere. These people are trying to escape the cold weather, let loose, and have a good time, crowding the streets and letting off steam from the long winter — not to mention getting ready to potentially fast and leave their indulgences behind for six weeks! It all adds up to one massive party atmosphere that you won’t soon forget.
